Topic: “Saved From The Tribulation” 1 Th. 5:1-5

Speaker: Pastor Kevin Sadler

Evangelizing of the lost is urgent

Chapter 5

  • Paul turns to the horrific events that the Rapture – The Tribulation period
  • Pre-tribulation 4:13-18 (The Rapture) The teaching of the “Day of the Lord” which follows the Rapture
  • Tribulation 5:1-3 (The Day of the Lord) Those who are left behind to face the terror of the Tribulation

Many things will take place after the Rapture

Times & seasons

  • The Bible is one barometer, and it’s pointing to a hurricane, a catastrophe, to a terrible time of tribulation for the world
  • The Day of the Lord will bring judgment and destruction
    • Isaiah 13:6-11
    • Joel 2:11
    • Jeremiah 46:10
    • Zephaniah 1:14, 15

1 Th. 4:13-18 (Comfort) contrast with 1 Th. 5:1-3 (Judgment)

  • The Day of the Lord extends all the way to the new heaven and earth
  • Paul gives us the beginning and Peter gives us the end

Rev. 21:22 & 2 Peter 3:10

The Day of the Lord – Paul points out three (3) distinctions:

  1. It will be unexpected
  2. It will be destruction and painful
  3. It will be inescapable

The Day of the Lord is coming like a thief in the night

  1. The simile of a thief describes the coming of the Tribulation period
  2. The simile of a thief describes the second coming of the Lord in judgment at the end of the Tribulation
  3. The simile of this is NEVER used in reference to the coming of the Lord at the Rapture of the church

Revelation 6:2

  • A bow with no arrows – referring to a short-lived false peace moment
  • Sign – Seven-year peace treaty with the nation of Israel – Daniel 11:21, 23 –work deceitfully
  • People will not expect what will happen next.

Paul is distinguishing the church, The Body of Christ, against those who will be left behind in the Tribulation

The dispensation of grace begins with grace (salvation of the first member at the Damascus road) and ends with grace (salvation of the last person saved in this dispensation).

All the Lord’s comings are rescues:

1st coming to rescue us from sin

2nd coming to rescue us from the wrath to come
